		2010.01.17 - 2010.01.16 AUSTRALIA Outback Alice Springs Ormiston Gorge, Redbank Gorge, Glen Helen Gorge ,Trephina Gorge w Reg Ramsden Remote Tours Location: AUSTRALIA Alice Springs The MacDonnell Ranges are the eroded remnants of an ancient mountain chain which was once as monumental as the Himalayas. The Ranges have thrust-up layers of rock, evidence of geological movements more than 300 million years ago. Still impressive and filled with striking scenery, the east and west MacDonnells contain gorges, waterholes, and walking tracks. For two days, Reg created a customized tour exploring premier locations where his four-wheel drive vehicle forging through streambeds so the three could hike and swim alone. It is a wonderful experience to look up at towering cliffsides while enjoying the cool of the pools. At the base of the Ormiston Gorge at 985 foot (18 meters) was the Ormiston Creek that contained a number of rockpools. The gorge consists of two layers of quartzite, literally doubled over each other, thus making it twice the height of others in the region. The Redbank Gorge, Glen Helen Gorge , and Trephina Gorge were equally impressive with their rich red color and cool refreshing water. After meeting Reg (definitely a “Crocodile Dundee” type) & Carla (a drop-dead beauty) at the Kings Canyon Wilderness Lodge where we shared a delicious meal, got together for dinner at Bojangles Saloon in Alice Springs, and toured for two days with Reg; the four of us formed a nice friendship. They were even kind enough to join Jeff and Chris for a “bon-voyage” cocktail at the Ghan Train Station. Jeff and Chris are hoping that they cruise on MOANA KUEWA in the near future.
