Where is MK/Christine now >

Stuart, Florida, U.S.A.
Participants: Evelyn & Laura Plumb

Evelyn and her niece, Laura, flew down from Maryland/Virginia to spend time with Chris and see MOANA KEUWA for the first time. Evelyn is Chris’ friend for over 15 years who came to enjoy Barcelona & “Las Fallas” Fiesta in Valencia, Spain. Evelyn Layton and Chris worked together in creating courses and a legal framework for distance training (computerized training) for the Defense Acquisition University. Evelyn was a “civilian” who worked at the headquarters and Chris was an Air Force Captain who was professor at the Defense Systems Management College. Evelyn is now retired, living in Maryland, and teaches piano on her white baby grand piano in her home. Laura is her niece. They are truly “soul-mates” and are more friends than relatives. We especially enjoyed the “Queen Mary Pub” where their was live piano music performed by an individual that used to be a professional entertainer on cruise ships. We had a lot of laughs and good times.

U.S.A.: Virgin Islands, St Thomas Island, Red Hook
Participants: Captain P. Casey
|
Although Chris does not have a picture of Captain Casey on MOANA KUEWA, he and a fellow instructor, Captain Russ Charette, from Florida joined Nancy Chapman, Judi Graser, and Chris on MOANA KUEWA for dinner. Captain Casey is owner of “The Captain School” that Chris attended to obtain her U.S. Coast Guard 100-ton Master’s Licence (Captain’s Licence). Chris and Captain Casey had many enjoyable conversations and a friendship began to grow. In the course of these conversations, Chris disclosed that she was a professor at the Defense Systems Management College while she was on active duty. Before departing, Captain Casey asked if she was possibly interested in teaching again. Although she loved teaching, traveling was much too important to have teaching slow her down. However, it was very complimentary.

Although Chris does not have a picture of Jack on MOANA KUEWA, he joined her for dinner one evening. Jack is another wanderer and has lived on his sailboat for many years. Jack and Chris shared many a drink and story at Red Hook usually before the Captain’s course started. I hope he continues to do well on his adventures.

U.S.A.: Virgin Islands, St Thomas Island, Crown Bay Marina & St John Island
Participants: Dr Judi Graser, Nancy Chapman, & Ryan Skinner

Ryan Skinner is my niece, Amy’s, very good friend who happened to be going to college in St Thomas. He insisted on picking-up Chris’ friends from the airport and taking them to MOANA KUEWA because Chris was still completing the last of her testing. How considerate (plus, I’m sure Judi and Nancy appreciated being picked up and entertained by such a handsome/nice young man). Judi & Nancy flew to St Thomas to help Chris celebrate completion of all the course work and testing to qualify for the U.S. Coast Guard Master License – 100 Gross Tons – Near Coastal & Ocean, plus STCW certification. Whew. Of course, Judi, Nancy, and Chris look for any excuse to get together. The “three amigas” always have so much fun! Judi visited St Thomas in the past so she led the choice of activities. We began our “circle-island” tour by going to Green Plantation, Megan’s Bay View, Windham to swim, and dined at a fabulous restaurant, “Old Stone Farmhouse.” The next day, we hopped a car ferry to St John for the day for touring, snorkling in Hawks Nest Bay, and swam in the hotel’s pool at Caneel Bay (we had the pool all to ourselves). On St Patrick’s Day, we celebrated at Molly Mallon’s at Red Hook Bay with Captain Casey (the owner of the Captain’s school)..& definately became “disorderly.” The rest of the time, we enjoyed “hanging out” at some of the nicest resort pools. Nancy was a definate lover of iguanas.

Participants: Bernie Francis

Bernie came over to introduce himself to Chris. He and June were “at anchor” on S/Y CHIMURA where he was Captain and June was crew for seven years. CHIMERA was changing its cruising plan where a Captain and crew would no longer be needed “full time.” Therefore, Bernie accepted a position to be the technical support for the Med Bound 2007 trans-Atlantic group. He knew MOANA KUEWA was planning on being part of this group. Chris followed Bernie by tender from MOANA KUEWA to CHIMERA because she wanted to meet June. Chris was extemel y impressed how Bernie & June maintained the 10-year old boat. In addition, she instantly liked both individuals. Sometime fate comes to play. Chris was looking for a 1st Mate/Chief Engineer after her crew departed MOANA KUEWA in Europe after Med Bound 2007. Bernie was the perfect candidate. Chris met with Bernie and June and offered Bernie the job on board MOANA KUEWA. He accepted. How very lucky Chris was. It was one of the best decisions of her life as he was a true team member until personal goals and requirements required him to depart MOANA KUEWA in January 2007.
