Siniša Ižaković, owner of ISSA Diving Center, Vis Island, Ribarska 91, 21485 Komiža, Vis, Cell 00358-91-2012-731, www.scubadiving.hr picked Jeff & Chris off MOANA KUEWA’s swim platform at 0845 hrs. It was a short tender ride to Biševo Island’s “Blue Cave.” Jeff & Chris entered the cave at approximately 40 feet. In the cave was an eel, an 8” brightly colored centipede-type creature, and a few varieties of small fish. However, when looking back at the circular underwater entrance to the cave the intensity of blue was breathtaking. The best dive we’ve experienced in Croatia! After the dive, Siniša came on-board for a quick tour.

CROATIA: Ŝibenik, Mandalina Marina

Dave & Lowie Bock owners of SALTY DAWG (Nordhavn 55 – Med Bound 2007 partner with MOANA KUEWA) and Christopher Samuelson & Sonaia Hermida owners of GOLEEN (Nordhavn 57) joined Jeff and Chris for a Mexican Dinner on MOANA KUEWA. Margaritas/cervaza, conversation, and warm friendship filled the salon. It was SO WONDERFUL seeing our good friends again! The end of the evening set a solemn reality that this may be the last time we see each other for a long time. Dave & Lowie will be working their way down the Croatian and Greek coast and will be wintering in Kemer, Turkey. Christopher and Sonaia will be crossing the Adriatic to Italy and then return to Alcudiamar Marina, Alcudia, Mallorca Island, Spain. Jeff and Chris miss them already.

Mario was the shipyard’s Project Manager for the gel coat and stainless steel guide rail repair to MOANA KUEWA’s starboard side due to a “close encounter of the first kind” with another boat’s anchor during the approach to Marina Mandelina during a 25 knot Bora wind gust 2008.07.22 and a second visit after an approximate 35 – 40 (maybe as high as 50) knot wind gust slammed into Moana Kuewa’s port sideat midnight while at anchor in Potkućina anchorage, Kakan Island, breaking the anchor free, bending the 170 lb stainless steel anchor 30 degrees to starboard, and cracking the weld on the port side! Besides managing the repairs, Mario personally took Jeff to the hospital for a shoulder injury. This saved countless hours as Mario was either related to or knew the entire hospital staff. Jeff was “in” and “out” in about 1 ½ hours even with xray and examination. How considerate! Milan is director of Almagest Shipping & Travel Agency who was the agent who supported MOANA KUEWA throughout the time in Ŝibenik (that grew to be a much bigger job than checking out of Croatia originally planned for 2008.07.21 – canceled due to weather). Both Mario and Milan were so terrific, Jeff and Chris wanted to get to know them better, so Jeff made his “famous” barbeque ribs and baked beans for dinner for both families.

Chris met Don and Christine at the Waikiki Yacht Club in 2003. Their friendship quickly grew when they so kindly invited her to participate in numerous Friday-night “beer-can” races on their sailboat “Rascal”; participated in many WYC activities, played tennis at the Ala Moana Park Tennis Courts at dawn, and dined together many times at each other’s condos and multitude of fabulous restaurants. Whenever Chris was in Hawaii between 2003 & 2006, she saw one or the other an average of four out of seven days a week. Then, Don & Chris met Jeff during his visit to Hawaii in 2005 and took us sailing. Our friendship has even grown closer now that we’ve been able to spend 22 wonderful days together and Don has adopted Jeff.

BLUEWATER & GOLEEN caught up with MOANA KUEWA below the lava flow of Mount Etna. Cocktails and a shiska bob dinner was waiting on MOANA KUEWA for our very good friends upon their arrival. MOANA KUEWA is lucky to be a part of a network of Nordhavns cruising the Med. You probably remember that BLUEWATER and MOANA KUEWA were two of the three boats that were part of the Med Bound 2007 trans-Atlantic rally summer 2007. Ever since the start of the rally in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, U.S.A., Chris’ friendship with Milt and Judy has grown as we shared good times in Bermuda, Azores, Gibraltar, Mallorca Island (in Santa Ponza and Puerto Colom), Barcelona (Port Vell & Port Forum), Riposto, and Kotor. On 2007.07.10, Sonaia photographed the arrival of the Med Bound 2007 group as they were inbound to Gibraltar. Then, Sonaia and Christopher joined the Med Bound 2007 group during its final dinner at the Little Mermaid Restaurant, Gibraltar.
