Throughout Chris & Jeff’s time in Cairns, Brian’s generosity has been unsurpassed. He has taken time away from his very busy schedule as a Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon and father of young two girls to: give Jeff and Chris two fabulous flying experiences on his Cessna 206 amphibious plane; drop by MOANA KUEWA on June 20th for a quick introduction to his wife, Emmeline, daughters, Alexis & Georgia; shuttle Chris & Jeff to the Cairns Airshow on July 4th and explain the various aircraft on display; arrange the doctor’s appointment with Dr. Michael Mansfiend when Chris broke a bone in her foot in August; invite Chris to join Peter Devers and him for a tour of the Nordhavn 86, GLORIA MARIS the day after she got the cast; and bring the family to MOANA KUEWA on 11 NOV for a “bon voyage” dinner – Jeff made his world famous barbeque ribs and baked beans. Everyone had a lot of fun playing the Mexican Train dominos game. It is too bad that Alexis ballet performance was a week after MOANA KUEWA departed. It would have been enjoyable to watch her dance portrail of woodland creatures.

Participants: Jim Wallace & Craig ATLAS Nordhavn 62

09 NOV MOANA KUEWA had to move from Berth H12 to E6. To our surprise, we pulled in next to the Nordhavn 62, ATLAS. Craig the owner was quick to greet Chris eye to eye because both were on the portuguese bridge of both boats. The next day, Craig brought Jim Wallace (the previous owner of ATLAS and world cruiser) to the boat for an afternoon beer. Lively cruising and Nordhavn discussions took place.

Participants: Mossy, David & Robyn Kubala, Amanda Hunt, Sarah

Yes, this is the same Mossy that visited MOANA KUEWA on July 14th & 15th to wish Jeff and Chris “goodbye.” Jeff and Mossy have become real “buddies.” Through Mossy, we met Amanda Hunt (an American) and Sarah. In addition, this is the same David & Robyn who came on MOANA KUEWA on 07 AUG while at the Tufi Dive Resort and had dinner with Chris, Mike Mansfield and Katherine on 31 AUG. They came to the boat bearing gifts of fresh papya picked from their papya farm in the tablelands. Chris & Jeff attended David’s 50th Birthday Party at their home in Bramston Beach on 13 NOV before departing Cairns on 15 NOV. Their entire family was there along with at least 50 of their friends. Again, lucky – lucky us.

Dr. Mike Mansfield was first introduced to Chris by Dr. Brian Finn. Dr. Mansfield (AKA Mike) came in on his day off, Friday, 27 AUG, to see Chris after she flew in from Papua New Guinea. When Chris expressed her sincere appreciation, he said Brian said I would take him to lunch at any restaurant of his choosing. Brian was right! Mike met Chris at Donnini’s Restaurant in the Marlin Marina Mall. Conversation was brisk as Mike talked about the structure of the Australian Government and the vision of his party “Fishing and Lifestyle Party.” He was running for a Senate seat. He also invited Chris to join him, and other guests, in his Deeral Beach home the next day, Saturday, 28th August. One of his neighbors was having a BIG 60TH BIRTHDAY PARTY – great party.

Chris couldn’t leave town without inviting Mike, and his special friend, Katherine; to dinner on Tuesday, August 31st. He surprised her by inviting mutual friends, David and Robyn Kubala! Chris & Jeff had tons of fun with David & Robyn at the Tufi Dive Resort less that a week before!

When MOANA KUEWA returned to Cairns, Chris could not resist the temptation to repay Mike for all his generosity by preparing a “Thanksgiving-type” turkey dinner. Mike brought a visiting guest, Richie, and his special lady, Katherine.

Two days after MOANA KUEWA arrived in Marlin Marina, Digby came to the boat. He is thinking of becoming a Nordhavn owner and was curious about a Nordhavn 55. He enjoyed the quick tour of the boat and returned with his wife a week later. Digby currently works at Scuba Pro as a Captain and ownes a Riviera.
